The short version
We collect basic information when you submit our lead form (name, business name, email, phone, province, monthly card volume). We use it to follow up about surcharging. We don't sell it. We use a small number of standard services (Netlify, Google Analytics, our CRM) to run the site and respond to inquiries.
Who we are
surcharging.ca is an independent Canadian resource on credit card surcharging. The site is operated by The Surcharging.ca Editorial Team. For privacy questions, you can reach us at the email address listed at the bottom of this page.
What we collect
Information you give us
When you submit the lead form, we collect:
- Your full name
- Your business name
- Your email address
- Your phone number
- Your province
- Your approximate monthly credit card processing volume
We don't collect any other personal information through the site. There is no account creation, no comment system, and no membership area.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site. Google Analytics collects standard web data such as your approximate location, device type, browser, pages visited, and time spent on each page. This data is anonymized and helps us improve the site.
We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels for ad networks. We do not track you across other sites.
How we use your information
If you submit the lead form, we use your information to:
- Respond to your inquiry by phone, text, or email
- Connect you with a Canadian surcharging specialist if you've asked for help
- Provide relevant information about surcharging based on your province and business
We use analytics data only in aggregate, to understand which content is useful and to improve the site over time.
Who we share information with
We work with a small number of trusted service providers to operate the site:
- Netlify — hosts the website and processes form submissions
- Google Analytics — anonymized usage analytics
- Our CRM (HighLevel) — manages follow-up communication with people who submit the form
These providers may store data on servers located outside of Canada (typically the United States). They are bound by their own privacy policies and contractual obligations to protect your information.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.
How long we keep your information
If you submit the lead form, we keep your contact information for as long as is reasonably necessary to follow up — typically up to 24 months. After that, your information is deleted unless you've become a customer or have asked to stay in touch.
Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics defaults, which is currently 14 months.
Your rights under PIPEDA
Under the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Request a copy of that information
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Withdraw your consent and request deletion of your data
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
To exercise any of these rights, email us using the contact information at the bottom of this page. We'll respond within 30 days.
Cookies
We use a minimal number of cookies, all of which fall into two categories:
- Essential cookies — required for the site to function (managed by Netlify)
- Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics to measure usage
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Disabling them won't break the site, but our analytics will be less accurate.
Children
This site is for Canadian business owners. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has submitted information to us, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be noted on the homepage briefly.
